Annihilus, a powerful Marvel Comics character may finally make his live action MCU debut. A Nova Series for Disney Plus has been rumored to be in the works for many years at this point but we have received many recent reports, showing some progress with the series as well as the main villain of the series, rumored to be Annihilus. Now many fans know Annihilus as the powerful cosmic being from the Negative Zone who leads the biggest army in the Universe known as the Annihilation Wave.
Annihilus makes his debut

This scoop comes from well-known scooper, Daniel RPK and, if true, this would have an enormous impact on the MCU. In the comics, Annihilus is usually a villain for the Fantastic Four, however he is also behind the destruction of Xandar which makes Richard Rider, Nova Prime. In the MCU, it was Thanos that destroyed Xandar but this story can still work here. Richard Rider could be the last Nova Corps member on Xandar and he becomes Nova Prime.
We could follow Nova exploring the galaxy to find more Nova Corps members stranded throughout the Universe or recruit some brand new members such as Sam Alexander who has also been rumored to appear in the show as the secondary protagonist. Further to this scoop, MyTimeToShineHello reported that Marvel have reached out to writers for the series and they have requested that the tone of the series be “young and sexy” to capture the energy of 80’s movies, potentially trying to follow the same tone as projects such as Top Gun.
Apparently one pitch was very similar Starship Troopers with Richard Rider joining the Nova Corps to fight the first phase of the Annihilation Wave. This would be a fantastic avenue for the series to go down and would really fit the Nova character and storyline well. But I have to point out the obvious here, more specifically the reference to it being the “first phase” of the attack by Annihilus. Annihilus is a huge villain in Marvel comics and it could be said that having him be limited to being the villain of the Nova series alone would be a bad idea.
The Beginning of the Annihilation Event

But as pointed out, if this is the first phase of Annihilus’ attack then we could see Annihilus continue to be a threat in the MCU. This could begin a larger story arc in the MCU for the cosmic side and go on to become a big Annihilation event similarly to the comics. We could see several projects in the MCU based in space where Annihilus is a threat or has some sort of influence on events until we get a large crossover movie where Annihilus sends his final Annihilation Wave.
This could be a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, a Captain Marvel sequel, a sequel to Fantastic Four: First Steps or they could simply make a movie called Annihilation where all the cosmic heroes of the MCU team up to take down Annihilus once and for all. I could see this arc going on throughout the next saga of the MCU, all the way to the saga afterwards. It would all depend on how Marvel decide to portray the story.
With the MCU heading for a possible soft reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars, the next saga will obviously bring in the Mutants to the MCU, forcing Marvel Studios to tell more Earthbound Stories, however many fans would love to see the Cosmic side of the MCU grow alongside with the more grounded stories too. And who better to be a Cosmic Level threat than Annihilus himself.
Regardless, if Annihilus is making his debut in the MCU in a Nova series, this alone would be a fantastic project to see and many fans will surely be excited to finally see a good adaptation of Annihilus in live action.
