Shang Chi 2 Finally In Development
Ever since ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ was released in theatres fans have looked forward to a sequel exploring Shang-Chi as he discovers the secrets of the Ten Rings and their origins, but what was not expected was a version of Iron Fist to be making an appearance. Development on a Sequel to Shang-Chi has been very quiet until recently as a report by @DanielRPK states that Shang-Chi 2 is still in development and is likely to be release within Phase 6 of the MCU, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to write and direct again.
Shang-Chi was a fairly obscure character in Marvel comics, being the Master of Kung Fu was not enough to bring the character into the spotlight and become a household name like Spider-Man. However, after Marvel Studios began Phase 4 of their MCU, the first phase of the Multiverse Saga, Shang-Chi was given a live action movie within the MCU. ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starred Simu Liu as the titular character. The film grabbed many fans as it was a breathe of fresh air and allowed us to visit corners of the MCU that we have not yet seen.
This is, of course, excellent news for Marvel fans but it is another piece of DanielRPK’s report that is the most interesting. DanielRPK has previously reported that Marvel is working on an animated series called ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ which will show different era’s of Wakanda within the MCU. In ‘Eyes of Wakanda’, it has been reported that there will be a version of Iron Fist making an appearance.
This Iron Fist isn’t likely to be Danny Rand from the Netflix series, he will likely make an appearance elsewhere in the MCU, either recasted or not. This version of Iron Fist has been reported to be a new character called Janora who will be allies with a Wakanda Warrior. This is likely to be a past version of Iron Fist who was Wakandan, however the mantle may have then been passed back to the people of K’un-Lun where Danny Rand would later received the title.
Wakandan Version of Iron Fist
The ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ series could provide us with this new version of Iron Fist, a seemingly original character to the MCU, to show that the nations of Wakanda and K’un-Lun where once united but over the years have either drifted apart and forgotten about, or the union was torn apart by war.
For a Wakandan to have received the Iron Fist is such a cool and interesting concept that would be incredible to explore within the MCU and this new version of Iron Fist would not affect Danny Rand’s Iron Fist in the MCU someday. You may be asking now, how can Shang-Chi 2 have the same version of Iron Fist as the ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ show if it is set in the past?
Well many rumours and reports have suggested that the main focus of the Shang-Chi sequel will include time travel as part of the plot as well as the origins of the Ten Rings being tied to Kang the Conqueror. If Janora is set to appear in Shang-Chi 2 as a past version of Iron Fist, then it is possible that Shang-Chi will time travel at one point to the past to meet this powerful warrior. But how and why is the question that needs to be answered. Unfortunately no report has explained this but I do have theory that may answer this question.
Shang-Chi Becoming the Master of All Martial Arts
With Time Travel as a possible aspect of the Shang-Chi sequel, and with the Ten Rings being connected to Kang the Conqueror in someway, Janora may be the key in stopping the threat of the sequel and possibly the next Avengers movie.
Shang-Chi 2 could have the titular character using the Ten Rings in someway that allows him to shift himself within the Sacred Timeline, allowing him to travel to different points in time. It could be the Shang-Chi meets this version of Iron Fist and is trained by her, possibly giving him the ability of the Iron Fist.
Shang-Chi would either be lost in time, or purposefully travel through time to train with some of the greatest warriors throughout history. A Wakandan Warrior as a version of the Iron Fist would definitely fall under the category as one of the Greatest Warriors in history, Another option could be that Shang-Chi is recruiting heroes across the timeline to fight against the Kang Dynasty in Avengers 5. Whatever the case, it is an interesting idea to have an Iron Fist show up in Shang-Chi 2 and fans should expect some incredible fight scenes to blow their minds.
