Fans have been anticipating the release of one of the most important projects for Marvel Studio’s Multiverse Saga, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.  Now Deadpool & Wolverine has finally released and with its release, I have taken it upon myself to do a Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained and talk about how this movie will impact the future of the MCU as we near Phase 6 of the Multiverse Saga.

The Mutant Era Begins

Deadpool & Wolverine has finally released and has already become the highest grossing R-Rated movie of all time. Although some fans are displeased with the movie, most are in agreement that the film was incredible and has finally brought Mutants into the MCU. We have of course seen Mutants in the MCU previously with Ms Marvel and Namor confirmed as Mutants, however after the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, it can be said that Mutants in the MCU will become far more common in the future.
Kevin Feige has previously confirmed that Deadpool & Wolverine will begin the Mutant Era of the MCU. The ending of Deadpool & Wolverine will hopefully allow more MCU projects, especially projects based in alternate universes to the main 616 universe, to include more Mutants. It has been a consensus among fans that the MCU may be heading towards a soft reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars and an X-Men reboot may be with it.
However, it seems that after the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, we may be seeing more of the old X-Men join the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars. Deadpool & Wolverine ends with Hugh Jackman’s new Variant of Wolverine joining Earth 10005 along with Deadpool & X-23. Along with this, many fans believe that we will be seeing the old Fox X-Men join in the fight against Doctor Doom in the finale of the Multiverse Saga.
The Deadpool & Wolverine ending may indicate that during the events of Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars, we will have the X-Men from Earth 1005 join the Avengers of Earth 616 against Doctor Doom. It will then be during Phase 7 when we get our new X-Men tied specifically to the new Earth 616.

Army of Anchor Beings

Deadpool & Wolverine integrates a new concept into the Multiverse Saga, Anchor Beings. Anchor Beings are people within a specific timeline who is so fundamentally important that when they die, their universe slowly decays over the course of  2000 years. In Earth 10005, it was originally Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine that was the Anchor Being but he dies at the end of ‘Logan. After the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, the new Variant that we follow during the movie becomes the new Anchor Being of Earth 10005.
With this new concept, fans have been asking who are the Anchor Beings of other alternate universes. It could be said that some universe don’t have Anchor Beings but with this new concept, it does raise the question of who is the Anchor Being of Earth 616. This question was raised to Kevin Feige on Deadpool & Wolverine’s release. Although he was not able to answer the question, he was pleased that this question was raised and the concept of Anchor Beings is being used and thought about.
It is obvious that Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man will be the Anchor Beings of their world but who is the Anchor Being of Earth 616. Well, some may say that it would be Captain America or Iron Man but I believe Marvel Studios are trying to make Spider-Man the anchor being of Earth 616 and after the Deadpool & Wolverine ending we may see the term of Anchor Being become a more prominent term.
In terms of the future of the MCU, we will be witnessing another universe in The Fantastic Four: First Steps where we may discover more about anchor beings from the smartest man alive, Reed Richards. We do meet other characters from other universes in Deadpool & Wolverine, including Elektra, Blade and Gambit but during the final act, Deadpool asks the TVA to see if they can save these Variants and Hunter B15 tells him that she will see what she can do.
These characters may be the Anchor Beings of their worlds and they may end of joining with Deadpool, Wolverine, X-23, the Three Spider-Men and the Fantastic Four as an army of Anchor Beings against Doctor Doom. But of course, this remains to be seen, especially with the change of antagonist of the Multiverse Saga.

Earth 10005 After the Deadpool & Wolverine Ending

In 2024 on Earth 10005, we see a different world. After the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, we have two Wolverines in the same world, Deadpool & Vanessa look to be working on their relationship but one very important question is, what happens now? Well as many fans know, in 2029 the events of Logan take place where most mutants have been wiped out. So will this change after the Deadpool & Wolverine ending.
Well, in my personal opinion, I believe that Deadpool & the new Wolverine are now on a separate timeline to the original Earth 10005 timeline, similarly to how What If…? works. With the new Wolverine now entering Earth 10005, this would either replace the original Wolverine that is set to die in Logan or there are two Wolverine’s at one time. In this new adjacent timeline, we may now be seeing a different future for the Mutants.
This may not be explored in any future MCU project with Deadpool & Wolverine attempting to be the finale of the Fox Marvel Universes, but it is interesting to think about.

Post Credit Scene Explained

The Deadpool & Wolverine ending of course comes with an end credit scene but it doesn’t come with too much for the future of the MCU. During the events of the movie we meet Johnny Storm, the same Variant played by Chris Evans, and he is killed by Cassandra Nova after Deadpool tells her all the awful things that Johnny has said. During the movie, the audience is led to believe that Deadpool is lying to Cassandra Nova and Johnny Storm is wrongfully killed.
However, the Deadpool & Wolverine ending reveals Deadpool back at the TVA and playing a clip on the monitors. The clips that is played is from an earlier point in the movie where the scene cuts, however the clips shows a continuation where it is revealed that the things Deadpool says are true and Johnny Storm did in fact rant about Cassandra Nova and saying the terrible things that Deadpool quotes to her.
Of course this is just a comedic scene for the audience but I would like to point out what is most important about the credits. Not the post credit scene, but the credits themselves, showing scenes and behind the scenes footage of all the Fox Marvel movies including both the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.
Although the Fox Marvel movies received mixed reviews among fans, they still hold a special place in the hearts of all Marvel fans. After the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, fans can remain hopeful that we will see at least some of the Fox characters return one last time for Avengers: Secret Wars and we can get a heartfelt send off to these characters before we get an MCU reboot of the X-Men characters with The Fantastic Four already receiving their reboot in First Steps.
Though the Deadpool & Wolverine ending did not set up much for the future of the MCU, it can be said that it didn’t need to and was a perfect goodbye to the Marvel Fox Universes and brings hope that Deadpool, Wolverine and the other Variants we meet in the movie, may return once more, against Doctor Doom himself.
