David Corenswet’s Superman Suit Reveal
In January 2023, James Gunn as the new head of DC Studios announced the first Superman movie in over a decade and fans were ecstatic to find out more about ‘Superman: Legacy’. Since then we have heard most of the casted characters, a title change to ‘Superman‘ and the reveal of the Superman Crest. Since then we have heard most of the casted characters, a title change to ‘Superman‘ and the reveal of the Superman Crest. With Superman being one of, if not the most iconic superhero in comic book history, many fans have been extremely excited for the Superman Suit Reveal and now, the wait is over.
Long Awaited Superman Suit Reveal
The Superman Suit reveal has been speculated about and many fans have been creating their own interpretations on how the DCU version of the Superman suit will look. Many fans seem to have their own rules for the new Superman suit with many people asking for the classic trunks, a certain length cape, a collar, a certain colour, boots, etc. Now with the Superman Suit reveal that speculation has finally been put to rest.
The Superman Suit reveal, as seen above, shows David Corenswet’s Man of Tomorrow in what seems to be a battle damaged version of the Superman Suit that we will see in 2025’s Superman. The suit has many of the features that fans have asked for including trunks and boots that has been the most requested. The suit has been very well received so far, with many fans loving the suit.
Of course there is a portion of the fan base who are struggling with the suit and have many criticisms including the over-designed look of the suit but the suit overall looks incredible. The suit is an amazing balance between the classic comic book look all the while making it more modernised for modern audiences. Although many DC fans have wanted a look similar to Christopher Reeve’s version of Superman as opposed to the modern looking suit that Henry Cavill wore in the DCEU, it seems that Gunn has created a design that is the best of both worlds.
This is my personal opinion on the Superman Suit reveal of course and is not fact, but nonetheless, I believe James Gunn has done an incredible job at the look for the Man of Steel. Now let’s move past the appearance of the suit and let us look at the image as a whole. James Gunn has confirmed that this is a photo taken from the set of ‘Superman’ which means that this could be a shot of the actual movie, rather than just the Superman Suit reveal.
Is It A Bird? Is It A Plane?
So in this photo we see Superman in what seems to be an apartment building in the middle of Metropolis overlooking the city. It is hard to make out whether we can see Lex Luthor Towers or even the Daily Planet but the most striking image we see is of a glowing orb in the sky either firing or being fired at by a purple beam of energy with some green looking energy coming off of the orb as well.
Now many jumped to the conclusion, based on the colour scheme of this energy, that Brainiac will be the villain of ‘Superman’ with Lex Luthor playing a large role, only to be a main villain in a later Superman movie. The Superman suit reveal could be showing a lot more than just the suit and a pretty skyline. It looks as though Superman has been in a battle and is gearing up for a bigger fight as it happens just outside of this window.
Many villains have been teased and rumoured for ‘Superman’ such as Brainiac, Parasite and even Ultraman. James Gunn has confirmed that Lex Luthor will be the main villain of the movie, however he could be throwing fans off the scent or he is partially correct.
The Superman Suit reveal could be hinting at another villain being part of the movie. James Gunn may be correct with Lex Luthor being the main villain but that doesn’t necessarily mean he would be the only threat. Lex is Superman’s most recurring villain and it is definitely possible that Lex could be the main villain in multiple DCU projects but once again, this doesn’t mean that he is the only threat. Lex has been seen teaming up with other Superman villains in hopes of taking down the Man of Steel so it wouldn’t be too far fetched for him to team up in this movie.
Who is this secondary villain? Who knows. Brainiac is many fans top choice and after the Superman suit reveal, it is not impossible, but other than this photo, there is no evidence of the popular villain making an appearance. Another villain that has been theorised is Solaris. This is due to the fact that cast members of the film have stated that the comic ‘All Star Superman’ has played heavy inspiration to the movie. Solaris of course, plays a large role in the story so this glowing orb in the Superman suit reveal could be Solaris.
Regardless, the Superman Suit reveal was extremely welcomed and the suit is beautiful. Many fans, myself included, cannot wait to see more of Corenswet’s Superman, especially a version that is not battle damaged where we can see it in all of its glory.
