Many fans are concerned that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is struggling with their content, whilst many disagree, it is still clear that Marvel Studios does need to push for more quality over quantity. Now it seems that Marvel Studios has listened to the fans and have been reworking a lot of their current projects to ensure that the quality is of a high standard.

Avengers 5 seems to be the new target for Marvel Studios as a recent report by the Hollywood Reporter has stated that the fifth Avengers movie will no longer be called ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty‘. Instead we will receive a new Avengers 5 title which will remove all references of Kang as Marvel are trying to slowly move away from that villain.

But what many fans are now left wondering is, will Kang still play a role in the Multiverse Saga after he had been set up to be the next big bad after Thanos? Or will he be thrown away and replaced with another villain? What could a new Avengers 5 title show us about Marvel Studios direction towards Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Infinity Saga was built from 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ all the way to 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and now we are slowly moving towards another conclusion within the MCU with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘. With the Infinity Saga came Thanos, a tyrant from Titan whose mission was to eliminate half of the population of the universe. Thanos was built to be this incredible villain and by the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, fans were fearful of the power of this villain.

Even through the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Thanos truly showed the danger he presented in every bit of dialogue and every movement and action of his character. Many fans were hopeful that the next big bad would come close to Thanos and it wasn’t until ‘Loki Season 1’ where we got our first glimpse at the Big Bad of the Multiverse Saga. The ‘Loki’ show gave us He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror who would later make his debut in ‘Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantummania’. However Kang’s introduction wasn’t as great and powerful as Thanos’.

Not long after Kang’s introduction into the MCU, the actor behind the next big bad, Jonathan Majors, received allegations of abuse. We will not be discussing those allegations here, but after Major’s was charged, Marvel fired the actor, leaving the door open to a recasting of Kang.

But now it looks as though Marvel are thinking of scrapping Kang’s character altogether and having another villain possibly take over as the Multiverse Saga Big Bad. Although a new Avengers 5 title does not mean that Kang will be removed, it is a possibility. A few sources have stated that Marvel are hoping to have a Variant of Thanos return to the MCU, whilst other sources are bringing in names like the Beyonder and even Doctor Doom.

Who will be the villain of Avengers 5?

There is a distinct possibility that Kang will still be the main villain of the Multiverse Saga going forward and the new Avengers 5 title is actually simply ‘Avengers: Secret Wars Part 1’ to reverse what Marvel did with Infinity War and Endgame. However, let us go over some other scenarios if Marvel Studios changing ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ to a new Avengers 5 title, to accommodate a new villain taking over.

Secret Wars will most likely take huge inspiration from the 2015 run of the Secret Wars comics where Doctor Doom became God Emperor Doom and create Battleworld. Battleworld was a patchwork planet with several universes merging into one planet where God Emperor Doom is the divine ruler. However, we have not yet had an introduction to Doctor Doom within the main MCU yet so it could be very unlikely that we will see an introduction of Doctor Doom to God Emperor Doom within such a small time frame.

It is possible that Secret Wars will have a Variant of the 616 Doctor Doom became God Emperor Doom, possibly the version from the 2005 ‘Fantastic Four’ movie, however it is still unlikely. Another scenario that has been suggested by fans is the Beyonder who is another villain from Marvel comics who plays a pivotal role in the Secret Wars storyline. At first, it was believed that the MCU Beyonder will be another Variant of Kang, more powerful than any of the Kang Dynasty.

Now with a new Avengers 5 title, it is possible that the Beyonder may be set up in Avengers 5 and then will become the main villain of Secret Wars. It has also been said that Avengers 5 is now being reworked to become more of a New Avengers project before the larger events that will follow in Secret Wars, meaning the new Avengers 5 title could simply be New Avengers. Regardless of whether the new Avengers 5 title is significant in Marvel Studios’ plans or whether it has no significance at all and Marvel simply want to make new Avengers 5 title, is completely unknown but we will surely be given answers soon.
